Fidelizer 8.6 released – Some more fixes and improvements with Windows 10 v2004 update

Fidelizer Pro

Some people asked since few months ago if Fidelizer development is still active and yes it is. I have some internal updates over time and don’t save features and optimizations to prolong version releases.

Now version 8.6 is ready with some changes and optimizations applied. I waited until Windows 10 with 20H1 update released first to confirm further changes and launch it with some bug fixes improvements.

Recently I have a client using Sonarworks as DSP sound card so I also added Sonarworks apps to be recognized as audio processes too. I also added option to preserve current Processor Priority Policy as requested. 🙂

Fidelizer 8.5 released – Improved compatibility with AIMP/AlbumPlayer/Amarra/Audirvana/MusicBee/Winamp and Windows 10 May 2019 Update

Fidelizer Pro

Hi. Since releasing version 8.4, I’ve been very busy with a lot of product research and development projects while maintaining Purist ROM updates. Now I finally have time to maintain Fidelizer updates for next release.

Version 8.5 will now support AIMP/AlbumPlayer/Amarra/Audirvana/MusicBee/Winamp software. Plus and Pro version will handle new services added from Windows 10 May 2019 Update too.

After fixing reported bugs after each big update, I can finally keep up with program compatibility and Windows updates on this release. I’ll launch some major new products soon and they’ll be game changer improvements for audiophiles. 🙂

Fidelizer 8.4 released – Improved compatibility with Logitech Media Server plus some bug fixes and improvements

Fidelizer Pro

It’s been a few months since last 8.3 release. I’m glad to see the hardware key being resolved finally. I’ve been improving Fidelizer software since last release and now it’s stable and ready for official version 8.4 update involving bug fixes and improvements.

Version 8.4 will now support Logitech Media Server (aka. Squeezebox) software. It will also prompt for “Music Player Application 1-3” to avoid the confusion when browsing software.

There’s also immediate fixes after 8.3 like 24-core processor support that I patched again after proper release in Plus/Pro version which will officially be addressed in version 8.4. Higher optimization levels will not affect system/audio performance as much as before too.

Changelog for version 8.4

Free
-Added Media Player Application order 1-2-3 when browsing for each file
-Improved compatibility with Logitech Media Server software
-Improved system/audio stability on higher user level optimizations

Plus
-Added Media Player Application order 1-2-3 when browsing for each file
-Fixed multi-core optimizations on some cases with more than 16 cores processor like 24
-Improved compatibility with Logitech Media Server software
-Improved system/audio stability on higher user level optimizations

Pro
-Added Media Player Application order 1-2-3 when browsing for each file
-Fixed multi-core optimizations on some cases with more than 16 cores processor like 24
-Improved compatibility with Logitech Media Server software

Fidelizer 8.3 released – Improved hardware key’s compatibility on dual boot and Windows Update, AudiophileRenderer and JPLAY Femto support, and 32-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper fix

Fidelizer Pro

Hello everyone. After releasing version 8.2, I spent most of my time fixing the remaining issues with fidelizer.key generation algorithm. I’m truly sorry for the trouble all these times but version 8.3 will have full coverage of fidelizer key data fixes now.

In this release, the older keys you got before will still work as long as associated hardware is still present. This will fix issues with Windows Update and different hardware device order issues on dual boot for good.

While fixing the key generation algorithm, I also realized the root cause with Windows Server in core mode. The reason is fidelizer as a shell may run before important services sometimes and I made sure they’ll run properly now.

I also fixed 32-core processor bug issue that happen after releasing version 8.2 too. This issue has been fixed internally for a long while because it breaks functionality and I’m glad to see it’s officially addressed and resolved in 8.3.

Last month I found a rare gem called Audiophile uPNP Renderer. It’s true audiophile uPNP streaming platform playing only FLAC/WAV/AIFF format. It sounds really good for free software. Sadly, it doesn’t support DSD and ASIO but you can mix with VST too.

I also added new applications into compatibility list including new JPLAY Femto release and some new apps requested from clients. Windows 10 updates that have more processes related to audio performance will be handled properly now too. 🙂

Let’s exam Roon Rock OS – Windows emulator in Linux clothing

Correction: Roon Rock OS isn’t Windows emulator nor emulation from Windows environment

Most people probably know me as a Windows guy but I actually took all possibilities to improve computer audio including Mac and Linux too. I wouldn’t be able to push 100% positive feedback on Fidelizer Purist ROM for Android ROM without intensive research on Linux OS.

Today I decided to explore what’s inside Roon ROCK and see if I can improve Roon Rock image with optimizations based on my research from Linux’s audiophile OS optimizations. We’ll start exploring with Linux Reader and you also need program to unpack tar.gz file too.

Roon Rock - 01

There’s Linux ROONRESET partition and FAT16 CUSTOM_ROON partition. Inside ROONRESET has bootfs.img.gz for ROON OS installation loader I guess. After extracting and opening bootfs inside, It was named ROONBOOT. In there, it looks like ROONRESET but this time we have roonos-1 folder which looks like this.

Roon Rock - 02

This seems to be RoonOS partition to be cloned to Intel NUC’s device. there’s rootfs.img so it should contain something worth examing for further improvements. Let’s open rootfs.img and see how it looks like. I’m sure it’d be great.

Roon Rock - 03

Unallocated? That’s weird. But there’s no error during mounting process. Maybe it’s unsupported partition? Wait. There’s another CUSTOM_ROON partition from Roon Rock image too. Maybe this is an empty partition waiting to be created from there?

Roon Rock - 04

And there’s roon.tar.bz2 file. There’s nothing inside identity folder. Let’s extract roon.tar.bz2 file and see what’s inside. RoonServer folder? Cool! Let’s jump into it and see how Roon OS works!

Roon Rock - 05

RoonMono? Mono? It’s not what I’m guessing right? This can’t be real, right? Just to be sure, let’s open Server folder and see how it looks like.

RoonRock - 06

It seems Roon Rock OS is a Linux with Mono runtime running RoonServer’s .NET code through Mono platform. MacOS version also use the same principles too and works pretty well with MacOS support through Mono.

That aside, I think it’s good idea to run Windows .NET runtime emulation software rather than making a Linux port that can be worse than main code they wrote in main code if not done right. Mono is quite powerful. Maybe not as good as .NET Runtime in Windows but getting better over time.

As for possiblity of Fidelizer optimizations on Roon Rock OS, maybe I can optimize kernel and ramdisk image with some tweaks I can apply, insert some optimizations in startup script to further improve Linux OS environment, adjust Mono configuration, etc.

But I think the best way to optimize is to moved from Windows emulation platform to native Windows platform. Running real Windows with Windows environment optimizations should be better than optimizing Linux environment to emulate what Windows does better.
