After launching EtherStream network switch product, we’ve been receiving requests about making a better network switch for many years. We stood by our principles to keep products affordable and scalable.
With HyperLink network switch and Aura medical grade power supply launched, we can make audiophile network solutions even more affordable. So, Lira will become a successor of EtherStream2 + Nikola2 as a network station.
What makes Lira special as network station?
The biggest pain point of EtherStream2 is having a lot of audiophile cables to adjust with isolation feet all the time. There’s also a lot of cables to organize and need custom Y-split cable from Nikola to power Nimitra + EtherStream + AirStream together.
After listening to client’s feedback about issues with EtherStream product, we came to conclusion to de-clutter the chain by making linear power supply infrastructure and route access to network as a single box product. That’s how we name this product “Lira”.
With Lira as a single box network station, you can just plug Lira to streamer securely without cluttering space on audiophile rack. Lira can also share power source to Nimitra2 and AirStream2 directly with two 12V outputs with dedicated chassis ground.
Quality that transcends EtherStream2 + Nikola2
Designing the successor of EtherStream2 + Nikola2 combo takes a lot of effort into consideration. Let’s say we put EtherStream2 and Nikola2 into a single box together, people will see it as $1.5k product and question if $1k more is worth it for having power supply added.
So, we tried new components and revise modification process while releasing EtherStream2 network switch and test with Erawan prototypes to finetune our product improvement over years and start testing a few prototype units through different systems until it’s finalized.
There’s a lot of changes and improvements for internal modification process. Let’s start with enclosure having thick aluminum chassis with footer to handle resonance and vibration control better. And then we’ll focus on improvements over EtherStream2 and Nikola2 as below:
Improvements from EtherStream2 network switch
-Bypass power switch and input socket completely improving purity of power distribution
-Optimized output for shortest path possible to supply power from output board to network switch circuit
-Upgrade input capacitor upgraded with high quality polymer hybrid design with much lower impedance
-Upgrade noise reduction capacitors with even lower ESR with improving tuning for lower impedance and current leakage
-Upgrade resistors around grounding and internal circuit components to further reduce noise in circuit
Improvements from Nikola2 linear power supply
-Add dedicated chassis ground connector to ground conditioner product
-Change output connector to gold plated XLR with very high voltage rating (same termination as HDPlex)
-Upgrade DC output cable with high quality pure copper wiring
-Upgrade diodes with Schottky design with years of listening tests with different models
-Upgrade internal wiring with high quality solid core pure copper wiring
-Upgrade output transformer with 100VA Toroidy audio grade transformer
-Upgrade stock fuse with improved dynamics and musicality
With robust build quality having bigger enclosure and intensive upgrade from EtherStream2 and Nikola2, it’s quite a surprise for Lira network station to cost only about $500 USD more for all these improvements over EtherStream2 + Nikola2 combo.
Setup and applications
It’s very easy and simple to setup Lira network station. You can setup Lira into your system just like EtherStream as below.
Application 1: Setup Lira between main router/switch and multimedia devices
This will provide the most effective improvement to your multimedia devices. Lira will decrease network interference from local network and improve data integrity making connected multimedia devices sounding closer to ideal performance.
Application 2: Setup Lira between modem router and main WiFi router
This will improve data integrity from internet for full coverage improvements in your home network. As network packets are improved before sending to WiFi router, wireless devices can gain benefits from Lira too. It’s highly recommended for system with wireless devices.
