Fidelizer 8.10 released – Improved core isolation optimization and compatibility with ExerciseStabilizer/ExtremeStabilizer

Fidelizer Pro

After releasing Fidelizer 8.9 with some changes to support more cases, I realized two things from customer’s feedback. First is no feedback from customers configuring processor to have specific cores turned off. Next is some people prefer 8.8 sound.

After realizing how this new change doesn’t actually improve customer’s satisfaction, I changed my approach to fully focus on most common implementation with 2 cores per floating point unit and optimize core isolation to handle physical/logical cores better.

Now non-audio processes won’t touch cores in first FPU and focus more on logical cores if there’s no enforcement to last core only. Media Player Application will focus on physical cores. ExerciseStabilizer/ExtremeStabilizer is now compatible with Fidelizer too.

As a result, Fidelizer 8.10 has reached a new high improving synergy between Windows audio thread, media player applications, and non-audio processes. This update is very important and I highly recommend everyone to install this update.

Changelog for version 8.10

Roon core version selection is available for Fidelizer Nimitra Computer Audio Server

Nimitra2

After Roon 1.8 update, Fidelizer starts developing unique Roon optimization for Fidelizer Nimitra as Roon core and things have been going well so far. There’s some sound signature changes during Roon 2.0 updates but still sound acceptable for serious listening.

However, Roon 2.0 starts adopting CarPlay support in recent updates and some audiophiles feel they can’t enjoy music from Roon as they used based on feedback received from customers and friends asking me if I notice changes in sound with recent Roon update.

I investigated and tested different 2.0 builds and found that Roon 2.0 build 1182 sounds more preferable as the last build before CarPlay support. I shared my findings in Roon’s community hoping devs can test things out but my feedback wasn’t well received.

It looks like Roon 2.0 will focus on adopting more features to provide more accessibility such as Roon ARC and CarPlay and those changes may cause sound signature changes in some systems over time. For audiophiles using Roon solely for serious stereo system, this isn’t good news.

So, I went back to Roon 1.8 Legacy and start fresh since Roon’s database can’t be downgraded from 2.0 to 1.8 release. To my findings, it sounds decent, get the jobs done and I won’t have to worry about new updates causing change in sound signature like Roon 2.0.

After testing Roon 1.8 Legacy today, I decided to add Roon core version in Fidelizer Nimitra Computer Audio Server with Roon 1.8 Legacy as default option. You can also upgrade to 2.0 at any time from backup and Roon 2.0 that can’t be downgraded.

If you’re using Fidelizer Nimitra as Roon core running version 2.0 and want to setup Roon 1.8 Legacy version, I can backup your Roon 2.0 repository and start new Roon core 1.8 legacy for you to try and see if you want to keep using Roon 1.8 Legacy version.

I’d like to assure you that Fidelizer Nimitra server is still fully compatible with Roon 2.0. This option is a matter of personal and subjective experience about sound changes in different version updates. As old saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

Fidelizer Masterpiece Mod for iBasso AMP Module and Chord Products released

Happy new year 2023 everyone. Today I’d like to announce new projects for Fidelizer Mod that has been on going development for a long while. Due to busy schedule with EtherStream2 and AirStream2 projects, I revised Fidelizer Mod into two main projects as below.

iBasso AMP Module

The first one is iBasso AMP Module project that will replace iBasso DAP modification project. Modding the entire DAP circuit is very risky and it takes a lot of time to carefully solder very small parts in delicate circuit. So I talked to technician and revised the project to AMP Module only now.

The good part about iBasso AMP Module project is I can focus Masterpiece modification on AMP module with new tuning method and overhaul circuit parts upgrade. Modern iBasso DAPs also sound decent with improved design through years so we settled down with AMP Module modification.

Fidelizer Mod - Chord Hugo2

The second project is adding Masterpiece Mod level for Chord products. I’ve been developing a new Masterpiece level for a long while with new Mojo 2 and Hugo 2 products too so it took time to adjust the changes and finalize what I can really do to bring the most of out Chord’s second generation products.

Masterpiece Mod level will upgrade input filtering opamp with latest technology opamp model from market that provides better resolution and details while retaining original musicality. I also upgraded USB Audio’s clock module with high precision clock and apply noise reduction tweaks.

Both iBasso AMP Module and Chord products are active Fidelizer Mod projects now. I also removed Fiio and HiBy DAPs from Fidelizer Mod project due to the lack of time to support. You can check Portable Products page for more details about Fidelizer Mod project and I hope you will have a great year ahead!
