iBasso DX200 8.1 Oreo beta ROM impressions and Purist ROM possibilities

EDIT: Well, I released Purist ROM for iBasso DX200 with Oreo update now. 🙂

 

Hi, everyone. Oreo beta ROM came out yesterday for iBasso DX200 and I spent all day and night testing and checking things out. So far sound quality seems to be promising though I’ll miss Purist ROM optimizations until preparations are ready for Oreo ROM.

Current Oreo ROM can support LDAC through developer options and force bluetooth detection option which is good. UI is more responsive in launcher but Mango is about the same. MangoOS seems to be better though. However, file access to storage is slower than 2.10.215 ROM.

I think I’ll port new files to 2.10.215 ROM to use for time being until they improve file access performance in next version. If you don’t change micro SD card and re-scan frequently, you may try using Oreo ROM for a while with bluetooth headphones.

As for ROM modding potentials, it doesn’t look good. I can repack and flash update.img safely but repacking system.img and vendor.img will freeze at logo screen. I tried many ROM cooking tools and bought few more that supports Oreo ROM but no luck yet.

Well, this isn’t the first time we have obstable as I reached out to iBasso and they released Factory image and flashing tool for me to build the world’s first DX200 custom ROM with Play Store and some optimizations to improve device performance so they may lower restrictions after it goes public.

For worst case scenario, I can still modify the ROM to some extent but it’ll have limitations with current situation. I’ll continue my research for Oreo ROM modification. I already informed iBasso about the situation and hope to hear back from them soon.

Fiio X7ii Purist ROM version 1.0.7 JP update with partition mapping update released

Last week I received report from one customer who had firmware issues with Fiio X7ii 1.0.7 JP release. It worked fine for others but for some reason it didn’t work well for him so I asked him to dump stock 1.0.7 JP ROM and sent me.

After investigation, I found 1.0.7 JP has different partition mapping so I updated 1.0.7 JP release with new partition mapping from his dumped ROM. Please flash stock 1.0.7 JP first before flashing Purist ROM.

 

-Based on firmware version 1.0.7 JP
-Apollo – Fidelity Edition from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apollo-music-player-fidelity-edition-t3038629 included
-build.prop tweaks for better video and storage performance and improve battery life
-bundled audio effects removed but keep main engine (Poweramp works now)

Installation Guide

1. Download X7ii Firmware Upgrade Tool
2. Turn off Fiio X7ii
3. Connect X7ii with USB connection to computer while holding previous track button
4. Install RK USB driver included in Firmware Upgrade Tool and replace update.img image with Fidelizer Purist ROM version
5. Open X7II(Chinese text).exe and press the green button in middle right flash the ROM

iBasso DX200 XMOS Firmware 1.2 DFU update

I purchased my DX200 unit since iBasso came out and I once updated XMOS DFU firmware back the the days. I later discovered recently that there was internal XMOS firmware 1.2 update that can resolve playback glitches but couldn’t find any update online.

It appears you need to contact iBasso for DFU firmware 1.2 for upgrading XMOS chipset. This will resolve playback glitches like pops and clicks between track. To make things easier for older DX200 unit with XMOS firmware 1.0 and 1.1, I’ll host the mirror here with instructions included.

iBasso DX150 Purist ROM version 2.11.293 released!

Fidelizer - PerfectDynamics Sound Optimizations

 

DX150 Firmware version 2.1.293 was released on 1st September 2018 and now Fidelizer Purist ROM version is here. This time I also tested with real device to make sure everything works fine before releasing.

Last version had strange issues and I had to buy real device to test and fix it despite having only few customers but it’s my responsibility to make sure to resolve the case promptly so please consider upgrading if you like free version.

Installation Guide

2. Turn off DX150
3. Connect DX150 with USB connection to computer while holding play button switch
4. Install Rockchip USB driver included in FactoryTool
5. Open FactoryTool.exe and flash ROM according to instructions provided in DX200 batch tool instruction.doc

 

Optional (If your DX150 still has performance issues)

1. Flash factory image version 2.9.250 with FactoryTool
2. Scan music and confirm it works fine
3.  Flash Fidelizer Purist ROM with FactoryTool again

Fidelizer Nimitra Firmware 3.0 Update and purchase offers for 3,200th license

I also finished  a new firmware update for Nimitra/NimitraS Computer Audio Server. Firmware 3.0 comes with changes and adjustments through the year with the following updates:

 

-Added JRiver integration support with Nimitra optimizations
-Added MinimServer integration support
-Added sound notification whenever connection is established
-Fixed JRiver library update not removing removed files
-Fixed Windows 10 forcing Windows Update through hidden protocols
-Improved Asset uPNP database re-initialization compatibility
-Improved over all sound quality optimizations and 64-bit audio performance
-Upgraded HQPlayer NAA software and compatibility with both x86/x64

 

Nimitra will receive significant sound quality improvement tuned specially for Nimitra device after Fidelizer 8 release. This optimization is completely separated from Fidelizer 8 optimizations making 64-bit version sounding better too.

Nimitra also handled the case of some USB DAC using its own power supply and when Nimitra can’t recognize audio output after turning on before DAC. Whenever audio output is recognized, Nimitra will re-initialize audio services and notify to fix this case for JPLAY.

After offering JRiver option in Nimitra, I started working on JRiver integration with auto library update similar to Asset uPNP. All drives will be scanned in JRiver also with Fidelizer optimizations in JRiver software including Fidelizer WebRemote UI.

For customers preferring MinimServer with JPLAY for DSD128 support, Nimitra also support MinimServer as part of Nimitra platform now including library auto update feature.

Some customers may see Windows 10 being pushed with Windows Update since last year. It took me a long while to completely disable Windows Update enforcement in Nimitra. If you accidently updated Windows 10 platform before, you can rollback and apply this update to disable Windows Update enforcement.

Nimitra/NimitraS customers can send request for firmware update and I’ll update Nimitra firmware through Teamviewer or request download link for applying update manually. If you already upgraded Windows 10 and can’t rollback, you can Nimitra back for reinstallation or possibly NimitraS upgrade too.
