Fiio X7 Purist ROM version 3.3.5 released with bright sound signature fixed

And last but not least, Fiio X7 now has Purist ROM updated to version 3.3.5. This ones doesn’t have ROM deodexed too so it won’t sound brighter than stock ROM as well. I’m also working on ROM updates to resolve specific issues in DX200 and it’ll be updated soon.

 

-Based on firmware version 3.3.5
-Apollo – Fidelity Edition from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apollo-music-player-fidelity-edition-t3038629 included
-build.prop tweaks for better video and storage performance and improve battery life
-bundled audio effects removed but keep main engine (Poweramp works now)

Installation Guide

1. Download X7 Firmware Upgrade Tool
2. Turn off Fiio X7
3. Connect X7 with USB connection to computer while holding previous track button
4. Install RK USB driver included in Firmware Upgrade Tool and replace update.img image with Fidelizer Purist ROM version
5. Open X7 Firmware Upgrade Tool.exe and press the green button in middle right flash the ROM

There’s a lot of improvements for Advanced ROM and I also added Enhanced ROM into collection too. Please read Portable Products for more details including Fidelizer Mod project with 3 modification levels. Happy listening. 🙂

I planned to release this yesterday but I was busy with attending headphone cable contest event in Thailand as guest. Fidelizer Purist ROM for Fiio X7ii is now updated to version 1.0.6 without deodexing applied so sound signature won’t be brighter anymore.

Fiio’s Purist ROM isn’t deodexed anymore. I was little bummed about it. But people who don’t apply Fidelizer Mod will be more happier and Fidelizer Mod users can still get deodexed ROM. The total happiness in the world increased so happy listening. 🙂

Here’s another feedback today. I received feedback for both Fidelizer Pro and Fiio X7ii so I’d like to share them both at the same time.

Purist ROM Advance upgrade is worth every penny. It reveals more details, a more natural timbre, realistic tempo and stage. Both Fidelizer versions, ROM and PC are probably the best and and probably the last improvements I had to consider for the ultimate SQ I might need. I’m really happy with what I got for such a reasonable price. Again, I feel the need to send you beer … Cheers

Fidelizer Mod

 

Sorry for the long delay. I was visiting my parents since last month and I didn’t bring my ROM cooking materials with me. I only got back to my place few days ago and started cooking new Fiio ROMs as soon as possible.

As some people reported and mentioned in forums about Purist ROM sounding brighter than stock ROM, it was caused by de-odexing ROM which is a common practice for ROM cooking with ART runtime.

Odexed file is compiled as Dalvik byte code so app will run through Dalvik VM. De-odexing ROM will allow ART runtime to run app natively which also improve transparency and resolution in audio too.

However, opamps used in Fiio devices tend to sound brighter so de-odexing will make those characteristics more revealing too. I will publish odexed ROM so it won’t change sound signature on stock unit and use de-odexed ROM for Fidelizer Mod version.
