What’s inside the Network Player?

Interior of Teac NT503

Since yesterday’s question in Facebook about USB and Ethernet audio, I found some people are interested in learning about how Network Player works inside. I’m going to use most recent yet affordable product Teac NT503 as a model to explain. Top left is Ethernet board and top middle is USB board.

As you can see, this network board is very big, much bigger than USB board. It has a lot of chips like CPU and controllers inside.  Yes, the network board is actually a mini PC board that receives data from network and sends from built-in audio interface to digital receiver board.

If you connect DLNA Renderer PC to USB DAC and stream music from your phone, it will work exactly like that network board but use large board USB audio interface instead of tiny chip in network board. So building a dedicated computer transport outside should have more room for improvements.

Added FAQs page and information about bit-perfect

I wrote FAQs section in Fidelizer Upgrade Program page for a while but it doesn’t seem to have good visibility there so I moved out to a new page for easier access from Support menu.

I also added new question about bit-perfect hoping it’ll clear the misunderstanding about bit-perfect making perfect digital audio transport as below.

My foobar2000 has bit-perfect output. How can bit-perfect audio get anymore perfect?

Originally, the concept of “bit-perfect” is about bypassing “OS mixer” to send data to audio device directly. Bit isn’t perfect before because OS mixer will resample all incoming audio data to the same frequency from different applications.

All digital audio problems can’t be solved by simply bypassing OS mixer. Fidelizer puts great effort to reduce software implementation issues in digital audio and we recommend to use Fidelizer with bit-perfect audio applications.

Fidelizer 6.13 released – On-demand fixes and enhancements

After releasing 6.12 for a while, I received reports about breaking some processes that require Task Scheduler like Process Lasso for an example. Process Lasso is one of famous audiophile tweaks so This won’t do. So I reverted the changes related to Task Scheduler for “EnableLUA = 0” customers.

I also received another request to keep JPLAY clock settings other than 15.6ms so it won’t change OS Timer resolution now if JPLAY clock configuration is present. I still recommend 0.5ms though because it’s good for time-sensitive and low latency applications. Let me know if there’s anything you need after this release.

Changelog for version 6.13

Free
-Improved playback I/O performance on non-networked audio
-OS timer option will be unchecked if JPLAY Clock is not found or set to 0.5ms
-Secured the code in core optimizations to make sure the changes will be applied correctly

Plus
-Improved playback I/O performance on non-networked audio
-OS timer option will be unchecked if JPLAY Clock is not found or set to 0.5ms
-Secured the code in core optimizations to make sure the changes will be applied correctly

I’m staying at my parents’ place with poor internet connection form True company in Thailand. It occasionally go down so I couldn’t send over 900 licenses in one go. I hope it went well.
